Sky TV

Sky TV is a digital satellite system that allows you to receive Sky TV programming. Sky's digital satellite system is the equipment that allows customers to receive Sky TV programming. Every Sky digital satellite system includes three components: a small satellite dish (called a minidish), a digital satellite receiver (called a Skybox) and a remote control. Every Skybox gives you access to a customisable on-screen programme guide (EPG).

To receive Sky TV you need a minidish and a Skybox, both of which are free when you subscribe to any Sky packages. You can select a convenient installation date during the online ordering process (even on weekends and bank holidays). Once your installation is complete, the Sky engineer will show you how to use your Sky TV satellite system. Sky TV is available to 98% of UK homes. This compares to Freeview at 73% and Cable (NTL and Telewest) which is unavailable in some areas.

You also have the option of choosing Sky+, which is an award winning digital TV recorder and digital receiver in one, exclusive to Sky customers. Sky+ lets you record and store your favourite programmes so you can watch them whenever you like. You can even pause and rewind live TV and with an average of 40 hours of recording time, you will always have something you want to watch. Once you experience the no tapes, no timers, and no fuss of Sky+, you will never want to go back to ‘ordinary' TV.

Sky TV programming provides the ultimate experience in home entertainment with access to hundreds of subscription based program channels covering sport, movies, variety, knowledge, kids, music, style and culture and news and events. In addition, there are currently one hundred and sixty non-subscription TV channels, and a great range of digital radio channels through Sky satellite.

Subscribers also have the option of watching recently released movies at the touch of a button through the Sky Box Office service. Sky Box office allows you to rent a movie without leaving the comfort of your home. You simply press the Sky Box Office button on the Sky remote control to be taken to a menu on your TV screen that lists a range of recent movies and information about them.

Ordering Sky is easier than you might think, all of the channels available through Sky Digital are broken into six entertainment categories, and you have the choice of picking two, four, or six of these categories depending on your preferences. The categories include:

Variety Mix – This is best of US and homegrown dramas, old classics and top comedy.

Knowledge Mix – This includes award winning documentaries and educational and inspiring TV programs.

Kids Mix – This includes a great range of entertaining and educational children’s programs and cartoons.

Music Mix – For serious music lovers, this package includes a range of music and radio channels to suit all tastes.

Style And Culture Mix – Offering programming from food to fashion right through to the arts and travel. Something for every lifestyle can be found in this mix.

News And Events Mix – Keep up to date with all the latest developments in the world with this mix covering sport, politics, business and more.

You rent these channels on a monthly subscription basis - prices start at fifteen pounds a month for the two-entertainment categories mix and go up to twenty-one pounds for the six-entertainment categories mix.

Once you have chosen your entertainment mixes you have the option of adding on Sky Premium channels at an extra cost. There are two choices for the premium mix one is the sport channels the other is the movie channels.

Sky Sports Mix – This includes the following channels: Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 2, Sky Sports 3 and Sky Sports Xtra. These channels cover over a hundred different types of sport including premiership football, cricket and tennis.

Sky Movies Mix – The Sky movie channels show over four hundred and fifty different films each week. These are shown across ten different movie channels Sky Movies 1, Sky Movies 2, Sky Movies 3 etc. In addition, you also receive Sky Cinema 1 and Sky Cinema 2 and two Disney Cinemagic channels.

There are no commercials to spoil your enjoyment on Sky Movies and most of the movies are in widescreen with 5.1 surround sound! The Sky Guide also has movie reviews so you will be sure to find a great movie when you want to watch one. Sky Sports' commitment to pioneering technology means you not only get the big fixtures live, but also the best quality coverage of over 100 different sports, with interactive viewing so you can see the action from different angles, pull up statistics and watch replays.

The prices of these premium channels depends on how many entertainment mixes you choose and whether you have both premium mixes or only the sports or the movies mix, the prices for these start at thirty four pounds a month and go up to the top package, which is forty two pounds and fifty pence a month.
